Our advert revolves around 'MAC' a makeup brand and we focussed this not only just on lipstick as seen in the story during the advert but literally all the variety of the products the brand consist of. It was very important that we do this makeup brand justice as they have never made a tv appearance nor had an advert. Even though they are globally a successful brand.
The concept of this advert, is essentially about 'brightening the world' in some extent as MAC come in various shades and we wanted to acknowledge those unaware of this. We have a model walking through the streets of London from her home and adding color to the dullness of places shown in the video.
We cannot compare this to a professionally made video for this product as there is not yet one official one. But compared to other makeup brand adverts in the market out there, this defiantly is one that shows a story and has more to it than that. Also because this shows other quantity of makeup by the brand itself available, so if lipstick is something that a costumer is not attentive to or does not share much interest in a particular makeup type. This advert makes them aware of the availability of other products within the same brand.
The persuasive techniques used in this advert is, in terms of reflecting to Gilliam Dyer its 'beautiful women' looking good or a certain way to attract men or look a somewhat specific image. To admire or to be admired. Also the use of many looks shown in the video of how you could wear the makeup is a persuasion to the audience.
Based on the feedback I have received I would say a number of people have said they would want to buy the products, or the advert has made them want to buy the product. Hence our advert has been successful if the products were to make sales.
The advert is targeted as women in specific, not so much of a restrictive age range, just teenage to older years, the age you generally would wear makeup. It is pricer than average makeup so I would say upper class or the working class, as they would be able to afford it.
Essentially all the feedback I have received is positive with one criticism, which is one thing in particular and all the comments state this. A positive that almost everyone who commented seem to agree on is that out advert was effective in meeting the target audience and is appealing. Knowing this makes me feel like we have achieved the purpose/aim and hence our effort has payed off well.
One aspect in particular I was not happy with was that the editing made it seem unprofessional and there was too much going, it had more than one thing to be focused on. Initially it was just meant to be one story, Karina walking through the streets of London adding color to the dull world. This was the original, used and main idea I stated we should do. I felt the extra adding video effects were unnecessary.
Also when Karina mouths 'mac' there should of been a voice over, instead of the constant play of the music. A feedback I received stated this and frankly I agree as I put through the idea that there is a voice over yet there wasn't one.
I think next time, to avoid this from happening we can all agree on something before we have produced a final product. And engage this with all member of the group, better communication.
