comparing 2 idents:
We also see a young girl and an old man in the video, watching the rain. This tells us it this channel is for everyone and appealing to all ages in its suitability.
The music is the channel has its recognition as it has been used before in other ident ads hence it alerts the viewers that they are watching BBC1, they are more aware because they recall hearing it before.
I felt the opposition team's ident was irrelevant as it had nothing to do with what may be shown on next and the channels symbol. From our one you can assume that the weather is on next because there is rain and sun present in the video which can be seen, this is slightly intentional for the programming schedule.

Their ident was boring too, it had nothing compelling or exciting about it, if I was passing through BBC2, I would change and not even consider staying tuned in to watch all of it. It's unnecessary and has nothing to do with anything really, it's abstract and has no significance. Whereas BBC1 have carried out this tradition in the ident for many years which is to have a world representation, a globe or a formation of an 'O' which signifies the world. BBC1 is the most superior out of the other BBC channels as there are translated dubbed version of this in other countries, which shows just how much people enjoy this channel and it's programming.

Intro channel idents:
The three main characteristics of channel idents in an advert are:
1) There is music being played over, although there is no narration or any voice over the video. The emphasis of this gives us a 'flavour' of what is coming up next. The adverts music is somehow in relation to the now viewing programs suitability.

2) By reinforcing the brands logo and the channels color recognition, the audience are more attentive as they have possibly seen this more and the brand has left their mark on the audience due to this. All the adverts tend to show of their brands logos.
3) Convey some sort of surreal graphics, hardly ever any real life footage or acting in this. The idents leaves more of an impact on the viewer when it is in animation.
The purpose of channel idents is to have a dominant recognition of the channel. Which is done by, the 3 main characteristics listed above. It allows a channel to be visually familiar with/for its audience and others who may be interested. This for the channel is then under the pressure to be perfect, hence people will be attracted and drawn to this channel in specific.

Introduction to editing
a) Editing is arranging material to fit it to what you want.
Elliptical editing it what defines a videos plot, becuse you are transitioning your shots to omit an event in specific.
Long shots are what show the whole of something, which is effective in establishing the environment around the character in focus.
Every detail counts when it comes to editing.
b) Because the location has been established earlier in the scene, it shows the scene directly from overhead a very unnatural and strange angle. The use of shot-reverse-shot results in cutting back and forth between the 2 male actors, which gives the audience an assumption that they are having a conversation. It is then essential for the eye line between the two to match.
A wipe is a slick transition to move the action to a different setting/location, which is used in the film. The pace and rhythm of this keeps the audience engaged and able to keep up with the story.
c) Crosscutting can be seen as an effective way to show different location in which action may occur. For instance, in a film called 'the edge of the world' a scene in specific where 2 men are climbing. of course the audience are not attentive towards the editing gone into the scene but focused towards what is happening in the scene. Where then there is a flashback in the same scene, these are often used to fill in a back story of something that may have happened in the past and for the audience to re live/recall whats happened.
