Intro channel idents:

The three main characteristics of channel idents in an advert are:

1) There is music being played over, although there is no narration or any voice over the video. The emphasis of this gives us a 'flavour' of what is coming up next. The adverts music is somehow in relation to  the now viewing programs suitability.

2) By reinforcing the brands logo and the channels  color recognition, the audience are more attentive as they have possibly seen this more and the brand has left their mark on the audience due to this. All the adverts tend to show of their brands logos.

3) Convey some sort of surreal graphics, hardly ever any real life footage or acting in this. The idents leaves more of an impact on the viewer when it is in animation.

The purpose of channel idents is to have a dominant recognition of the channel. Which is done by, the 3 main characteristics listed above. It allows a channel to be visually familiar with/for its audience and others who may be interested. This for the channel is then under the pressure to be perfect, hence people will be attracted and drawn to this channel in specific.
